Mama! Ooooooooo!

Bohemian Rhapsody milestone

It’s been 44 years since Queen released “Bohemian Rhapsody,” but the song just notched an incredible milestone. Today, YouTube announced that the epic video has become the first pre-1990s music video to cross 1 billion views on the platform.

In case you need a refresher, turn up your speakers and let this rip:

The video was even remastered to mark the milestone.

Queen was ahead of its time. Remember that MTV didn’t launch until 1981, so this is considered the first promotional music video of its kind. The video certainly got a boost after the release of the Oscar-winning “Bohemian Rhapsody” biopic that featured the rise of the band before Freddie Mercury’s death in 1991.

1 billion views is an incredible milestone, but the landscape has changed pretty dramatically. “Gangnam Style” has 3.3 billion views in just seven years on YouTube! Now we anxiously await the musical movie about Psy’s life…
